“You’re in the business of selling belief in outcomes.”
That’s what a colleague said to me during a conversation about my business, and it hit me like a ton of bricks. I am in the business of belief? I sat with that for a while, because it named something I’d been teaching my clients for years without ever naming it as the core of what I do.
Belief Was the Foundation All Along
What she didn’t know is that my foundational program already teaches belief as part of its framework — the B.E.S.T. Spiritual Way to Grow Your Business. The B in B.E.S.T. stands for Belief, and it’s not a soft, feel-good add-on. It’s the load-bearing wall of the whole framework.
In order to actually grow a business, I’ve found there are four distinct beliefs you need to hold — and if any one of them is missing, growth stalls.
The Four Beliefs You Need to Grow Your Business:
1. Belief that you are co-creating with God
The business is God’s idea. You are a steward of that idea, offering a solution He designed for the marketplace — not the sole owner of a thing you built from scratch. That’s a real mindset shift: from owning your business to stewarding it, and understanding that God is the true owner.
Believing you’re partnering with God in business is the starting point everything else builds on.
2. Belief in yourself.
If you’re anything like me, you may wrestle with questions about your own capability. But growing a business requires believing that God gave you the vision for a reason. God gives each of us T.A.G.S: Talents, Abilities, Gifts, and Skills.
Those are what allow you to accomplish your assignment on earth, and specifically, your assignment in the marketplace. Belief in yourself isn’t optional — it’s key to your success.
3. Belief in your business
You have to believe your business is viable, sustainable, and was created to help people who genuinely need what you offer. Without that belief, growth and scale become an uphill battle.
This belief should include confidence in the unique way your business solves the problem — the specific angle, approach, or delivery that’s yours.
That belief is what pushes the business forward, especially in the moments when growth feels slow.
4. Belief in your product or service.
Last, but just as essential: you have to believe wholeheartedly that what you’re selling is the best solution for the problem you’re solving in the marketplace.
If you’re not fully convicted that you have the right product or service, it will be almost impossible to convince a consumer that you do.
Conviction is contagious — and so is doubt.
So, Are You in the Business of Belief?
After sitting with what I actually teach my clients at the foundation of marketing and business growth, I’ve come to agree with her: I am in the business of belief. You could argue we’re all selling belief in an outcome — but that outcome-selling only works when it’s built on belief in God, belief in yourself, and belief in your business first.
So I’ll ask you the same question that started this whole reflection: Are you in the business of belief?
