As a coach or consultant, communication is a key part of what you do in your business and is also one of the best ways to grow your business. Whether it’s offline communication methods like networking and speaking or online communication methods like email, social media, and blogging, communication is a key way of spreading the word about your business and what you do.
One of the best ways to communicate with your clients and prospects online is via email. Although people’s inboxes have become inundated with email, it is still one of the best ways to effectively communicate online with your database of clients and prospects.
There are many types of email marketing campaigns that you can include in your marketing effort, but here are three campaigns that I feel are most effective in reaching your audience.
-
Email Newsletter
This is the most popular type of email marketing. Many companies who use email marketing as a marketing strategy opt for creating some type of email newsletter. Email newsletters are a great way to consistently reach out to your audience, and the look and feel of your email newsletter can be totally up to you. A more recent trend has been to send emails that look less “newsletter” like and more “plain text” like. Many companies are opting to do this for several reasons including a better chance of reaching the inbox and less of a feeling of “marketing” and more of a feeling of a “personal email” when designed as a text email newsletter. However you decide to design your email newsletter, the key is to be consistent and to send relevant information. One of the biggest advantages of an email newsletter is it keeps you top of mind when you enter your clients and prospects inbox on a consistent basis.
-
Email Autoresponder
If email newsletters are the basic, then Autoresponders are the next step in your email marketing campaigns. If you’ve ever downloaded or opted in to receive any information you have seen Autoresponders in action. Basically, Autoresponders are a series of emails sent over a period of time after someone has opted in or downloaded something from you. The great thing about Autoresponders is that you can automatically create segmented lists of interest by what people have opted in for or downloaded. For example, if you are a life coach and someone has opted in for your checklist of 10 Ways to Find Your Purpose, you know they are interested in Purpose, so you can make sure you send them information about finding purpose in your life. This way you are always making sure that you are sending relevant information that should resonate with the person. The downside to Autoresponders is that it is a series that ends, so it’s not necessarily the best method to stay top of mind. Unless you add your subscriber to a new series or add them to your Email Newsletter, they will not be hearing from you consistently. The upside to Autoresponders is it can be more effective than email newsletters because the segmentation and the series makes your emails more relevant.
-
Email Drip Campaigns
Drip campaigns are very similar to Autoresponders in that they are a series of emails that can be sent over a period of time. The difference between an Autoresponder and a Drip Campaign is that an Autoresponder is initiated by someone opting in or downloading your information while a Drip Campaign is initiated by you as the sender of the email. You’ve probably seen this in action if you are on someone’s email list and they send out information about a new product, program, or service. You usually don’t receive just one email about it, but a series of emails over a period of time. This is a classic Drip Campaign.
