Several months ago I gave a speech at my Toastmaster’s Club about MSG and the effects of MSG on our lives, but this isn’t the MSG you may be thinking about. I’m not talking about the MSG known as monosodium glutamate that is an unhealthy additive that is found in Chinese and Japanese food to intensify the flavor, no, the MSG I am talking about is an acroynm for the Mountains, Storms, and Giants that we will have to encounter as business owners as we travel the road to building a successful business.
So how is MSG a factor for your business?

Mountains
When it comes to mountains in our businesses, mountains take the form of obstacles that we have to overcome in order for our businesses to grow. Mountains can include things like not knowing the right steps to take, not having enough income, not having enough clients, it’s a challenge that comes up for your business that you have to overcome in some way.
Whenever you feel like you are faced with an impossible mountain or obstacle in your business, you have to remember that even though the mountain looks impossible to handle, the way to get over the mountain is to take it one step at a time, nobody has reach the top of the mountain without taking it one step at a time.
The first step is to have faith that you will reach the top of the mountain or make it over the mountain. The second step is get encouragement from the people in your circle, and the last step is don’t quit, even when it seems difficult, even when you feel like you can’t keep going, because the Bible says with faith as small as a mustard seed you can move mountains (“……If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, remove hence to yonder place; and is shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.” Matthew [17:20])

Storms
The storms are periods in our businesses where things seem to be out of control. You’re not getting the results that you want, things keep breaking down or messing up, you loss your best client, you break up with a key business partner. You feel like you’ve lost control of your business.
It’s times like this that we have to remember who can calm any storm that we have in life. When we call on our faith and trust in someone bigger than we are who can calm any storm in our lives.
The Bible talks about Jesus calming the storm when the disciples are in a major storm, and they feel like their ship is going to sink and they are going to perish. We have to remember that we are not ultimatly in control of the things that happen in life and in our businesses, but we are in control of how we react to them. God can calm any storm that comes our way, but we just have to have faith and call on Him in the middle of a storm. (“………and there came down a storm of wind on the lake; and they were filled with water, and were in jeopardy. And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish. Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm. And he said unto them, Where is your faith?…..” Luke [8:23]-25)
Giants
Giants usually come in the form of people in our lives that seem to intimidate us, they may be more equipped, they may be more funded, they may have a larger following, but these giants can’t stop what God has planned for you.
There are so many stories in the Bible in which people are faced with Giants and all they had to do was stand their ground and follow God’s instructions, so when you feel like you are faced with a giant in your business, turn to God and listen to His instructions, and don’t be intimidated by the giants because what God has for you is for you and no man can stop that!
So when you think of the MSGs in your business, stop and think about the fact that with faith you can overcome any mountain that comes in your way, and storm that crosses your path, and any giant that tries to come against you.
