How your T.A.G.S. can help you build a successful business

How your T.A.G.S. can help you build a successful business

I recently attended a conference for women entrepreneurs and one of the speakers talked about knowing and living in your purpose.  This topic is something that is near and dear to my heart as I think that we ALL have a purpose here on earth and it’s up to us to discover our purpose and live in our purpose, and since work takes up a large percentage of our time, I believe a lot of times our work is included in our purpose.

The speaker said that we all have specific gifts, talents, skills, and abilities and because my brain works in acronyms, it made me think of the acronym T.A.G.S. (Talents, Abilities, Gifts and Skills).  The clothes that we wear have tags on them that tells us what the clothing is made out of, and how to care for it, which made me think that we have invisible tags made up of our talents, abilities, gifts and skills, and  our tags show what we are made of and how we should show up in the world.

Have you thought about your TAGS and if you are using your TAGS in your business?  If not, let’s break down the importance of your TAGS and the role it plays in building a successful business.

Talents

According to dictionary.com, a talent is defined as a special natural ability or aptitude; a capacity for achievement or success, so you have something that you are naturally good at and because of how good you are at it, you are wired to succeed.  Have you thought about your talents?  Have you determined what you are naturally good at?  Your talent is a part of your tags and shows what you are naturally designed to be and do here on earth.  In order to have a successful and fulfilling business, your talents need to be included in what you are doing.

Abilities

Although talent and ability are closely related, ability is something you can gain while talent is something that just comes naturally to you.  According to dictionary.com, ability is defined as competence in an activity or occupation because of one’s skill, training, or other qualification, so you can gain ability by acquiring skills, training or qualification in a particular field. Once you combine your natural talent and then add your abilities, you can be unstoppable in your business.

Gifts

Now a gift is similar to an ability, but the way it is obtained is different, dictionary.com defines a gift as  a special ability or capacity; natural endowment; talent.  God has given each one of us the gifts in certain areas or things in life and it is given to us to assist us and other people while we are here on earth.  Have you thought about your gifts?  What special ability or natural endowment has God given you in your life and in your business?

Skills

Lastly is your skills, dictionary.com defines your skill as the ability, coming from one’s knowledge, practice, aptitude, etc., to do something well, so similar to ability, skills are obtained through knowledge, practice and aptitude.  You can work hard to acquire your skill set.  What have you worked hard to acquire? What is your skillset in your line of work?  And are you using your skills in your business?

So in summary, your abilities and skills are things that you can acquire and cultivate and when you acquire and cultivate your skills and abilities it makes you and your business better.  While your talents and gifts are things that come naturally and you just need to activate your God-given ability.  So the complete picture is once you know and work within your T.A.G.S. you and your business will be unstoppable!
